Loan Debt

What is Loan Debt?

Often loans are taken out to make purchases of larger items such as a car, a new kitchen or a dream holiday. Technically, if you take out a loan you are in debt, but this only becomes a problem if you fall behind with your payments. Loan debts starts to become a real problem when one loan is taken out to pay off another, “robbing Peter to pay Paul” with the capital required increasing each time to cover accrued interest on the original amount.

Using Suitable Debt Solutions to manage your Loan Debt

Loans usually have a lower rate of interest than, for example, some credit and store cards. Therefore, when people find that they have large credit card balances, they may be tempted to take out a loan to clear that debt. This can be a good thing to do, reducing monthly payments and consolidating different credit card payments into one monthly sum. However, the loan must still be repaid and you should therefore not consider taking out a loan to pay off debt unless you are sure that you can meet the repayments.

Don’t let your Loan Debt spiral

It is easy to see how loan debts can spiral out of control. For example, if you originally borrow £5,000 but fall behind with repayments, interest will start to accrue so that you owe even more. If you are tempted to take out a second loan to pay off the first, to satisfy the first creditor, you will need to borrow a larger amount – say £5,000 + £500 in interest. You now have to repay £5,500 plus interest.

Don’t let this happen to you. Deal with your loan debt today. In some circumstances you can clear your loan debt without repaying the full amount you owe, saving £000s.
